The name means "old woman possessed by a god" and represents a "hag" or powerful ancestor woman, who holds open her vulva as gateway to life and death.  This Irish Sheela, the first to be described and named by art historians, was stolen from Kiltinan Church in 1990.   Original artwork ©Sid Reger.  (Resin with inclusions, 4 inches tall)
